Casper Ruud will meet Nicolas Jarry in the Round of 16 at the 2023 French Open. The match will be played on Monday June 5th, 2023. 

2022 French Open runner-up Casper Ruud has struggled for much of this year, and has not had a convincing path to the Round of 16 this week. Already dropping a couple sets to unheralded opponents, he will have to improve quickly if he is to get by his next hurdle, Nicolas Jarry. The Chilean defeated Ruud just last week en route to the title in Geneva, and his big serve and powerful groundstrokes gave the Norwegian heaps of trouble. However, best of 5 at a Slam is a whole different beast, so I expect Ruud to be better but it remains to be seen if he can raise his level to where it usually is. 

Nicolas Jarry is ranked 35th on the ATP Tour and entered the 2023 French Open on a huge high, capturing the Geneva Open last week. Unlike Casper Ruud, he has been very impressive in his run to the Round of 16, and will be seeking to reach the Quarters here for the very first time. He defeated Tommy Paul in the Third Round with a clinical display of controlled aggression, and despite being the underdog here knows that he can cause the upset yet again. 

I am expecting a high-quality match in a repeat of last week’s clash in Geneva, but I think that the result will be reversed here at the 2023 French Open. Nicolas Jarry has undoubtedly been the better player over the past two weeks, but Casper Ruud is a big-game player and has the experience needed to go deep in slams. It won’t be smooth and I expect Jarry to win a set or two, but give me experience and level-headedness in a Grand Slam everytime. Casper Ruud will win here, reaching the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros.
