Sixth seed Coco Gauff will take on 10th seed Karolina Muchova in the semifinal of the 2023 US Open. The match will be played on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

Coco Gauff will contest her first US Open semifinal on Thursday night, becoming the first American teenager to do so since the great Serena Williams back in 2001. The 19-year-old phenom is in the form of her life winning 10 matches in a row, equaling her own career-best win streak, and will now face in-form Czech Karolina Muchova whom she defeated in straight sets in the Cincinnati final two weeks ago. Gauff’s passage to the last four was secured with a 6-0, 6-2 whitewash of Jelena Ostapenko, the woman who dethroned Iga Swiatek from the World No. 1 spot and ended her title defense. The manner of that victory was the clearest indication that Gauff is now the red-hot favorite to walk away with the title this weekend. But, tennis, and sports don’t always work out that way.

Karolina Muchova, a crafty and tenacious 27-year-old from the Czech Republic, is having the season of her life. Like Gauff, Muchova has had a splendid summer that culminated with a top-10 breakthrough for the first time. Like Gauff, Muchova is also a Grand Slam finalist, having lost to Iga Swiatek at this year’s French Open. So these two players have been through adversity and know what it takes to bounce back. Unfortunately though, only one of them will make it to the final Saturday. Muchova sauntered into the semifinals with her own straight-sets demolition of unheralded Romanian Sorana Cirstea, dropping just three games. And she couldn’t have timed that performance, which was her finest at this year’s US Open.

Coco Gauff won their only clash coming to the US Open at the Western & Southern Open final two weeks ago. It was the young American’s biggest WTA title. Muchova has not let that disappointment linger on her and she’s bounced back resoundingly. The Czech has dropped one set so far, and Gauff has done so on three occasions during the fortnight. We think there is decent value at +140 for both players to win a set here given the outstanding form they’re in and we’re slightly leaning towards Gauff outright.
