Daniil Medvedev will meet Adrian Mannarino in the Second Round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. The match will be played on Thursday July 6th, 2023. 

Third seed and world number three Daniil Medvedev is on a mission to claim his first ever Wimbledon title, and while he does have the game to succeed on grass, his results have been terribly inconsistent. He had a solid run to the Quarters in Halle but lost in the First Round at the Rosmalen Open to his current opponent Adrian Mannarino in three sets. He had a comfortable First Round win over British Wild Card Arthur Fery, but is in for a much sterner test against Mannarino. 

Adrian Mannarino is unseeded here at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships and crushed Alexander Shevchenko 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 in the First Round, showing his prowess on grass. The Frenchman has always had a penchant for the surface despite his lack of a weapon, and with his 8-3 record on the surface, including a win over Medvedev will have him very confident ahead of this matchup. 

I am expecting this to be a long and drawn out battle, despite the gulf between their rankings. Daniil Medvedev is the much better player and has the big weapons in his serve and groundstrokes, but Adrian Mannarino is a grass court specialist. The Frenchman leads the head to head 4-2, including 3-1 on grass, showing that he has the ability to win here. However, a five set match is a different beast, and I expect the Russian to eventually figure it out. He is a very intelligent player and while I am certain that Mannarino will win a set, he won’t win the match. Back Medvedev to win this in four or five sets here at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
