Frances Tiafoe will meet Alexander Zverev in the Third Round of the 2023 French Open. The match will be played on Saturday June 3rd, 2023. 

Twelfth seeded American Frances Tiafoe had an impressive win over Aslan Karatsev in the Second Round. Karatsev is not the type of player that you would want to meet so early in a Slam, and he was thinking about the upset early on as he claimed the first set quickly. Tiafoe came roaring back however, and bullied his way to win in four sets. His serve was clicking in that match, winning over 75% of his first serve points and he will likely need to improve that figure against Alexander Zverev in what is a blockbuster Third Round match. 

Alexander Zverev has looked to be in sublime form so far here at the 2023 French Open, impressively dominating Alex Molcan in the Second Round for the loss of only seven games. He was very aggressive, striking 42 winners in the 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 win, getting better with each set. He has struggled since his return from injury but has looked great so far, and his clay court pedigree make him an extremely dangerous opponent for Frances Tiafoe. 

This could very well be the match of the tournament, between two highly entertaining players. I am expecting a blockbuster match, and one that can go either way. Frances Tiafoe is the higher ranked player and has been more trustworthy over the past season, but I cannot ignore Zverev’s sheer upside and pedigree. This is a player that has numerous big titles on clay and was recently a perennial top five player, and I think that this event is signalling his return to form. Tiafoe is a fighter and will give it his all, but give me the German to edge it here, moving on to the Round of 16 at the 2023 French Open.
