Frances Tiafoe will meet Aslan Karatsev in the Second Round of the 2023 French Open. The match will be played on Thursday June 1st, 2023. 

Frances Tiafoe is the 12th seed here at the 2023 French Open and is ranked 12th on the ATP Tour. Tiafoe has been solid on clay this season notably winning the Houston title though he didn’t do as well as he would have liked in the Masters events. He dispatched Filip Krajinovic in straight sets in what was expected to be a tough opener, serving extremely well and dominating the match from the baseline. While he looked outstanding, this was only his second win ever at Roland Garros and he will be desperate to keep this streak going against the tough Aslan Karatsev. 

Aslan Karatsev is ranked 62nd in the world and is unseeded here at the 2023 French Open. The Russian has been outstanding in the past few weeks, after a miserable past couple of seasons. Having to quality to enter this tournament, he defeated Alexei Popyrin in four sets in a controlled performance. He showed his capabilities on this surface in Madrid, where he reached the Semi-Finals. He has a tough match here against Frances Tiafoe, but knows that he is capable of the upset. 

I am expecting a cracker of a match here, and I think that it will go the distance. Frances Tiafoe has been the better player for the past few seasons, but Karatsev showed his immense upside in Madrid. They both looked solid in their First Round wins, but I am going with the American here. He has matured greatly as a player recently, and I think that he will have just enough to get by here. It will be extremely close, but give me Tiafoe to win here, moving on to the Third Round here at Roland Garros.
