Francisco Cerundolo will meet Luca van Assche in the Round of 16 of the 2023 Swedish Open. The match will be played on Wednesday July 19th, 2023. 

Francisco Cerundolo is the fourth seed here at the 2023 Swedish Open and is ranked 20th on the ATP Tour. The young Argentine has been quietly moving his way up the rankings over the past couple seasons, which some very consistent results. He is the defending champion here in Bastad having won in 2022, and will be seeking a repeat of that performance with a solid 16-10 record on clay for the year. After a First Round bye, he will face Luca van Assche in a match that he is heavily favored to dominate. 

Luca van Assche is unseeded here at the 2023 Swedish Open in Bastad and is ranked 77th in the world. He won his First Round match 7-6, 6-4 over Wild Card Madaras Nicolae. While he was expected to win easily, van Assche struggled a bit early on but that was more due to the strong play of his opponent than any fault of his. He will have to convert his break point opportunities if he is to have any hope against Francisco Cerundolo, who is a major step up in quality from his First Round opponent. 

This should be a relatively comfortable opener for the defending champion Francisco Cerundolo. He obviously is very comfortable with these conditions, and he has shown that he is an extremely consistent performer, especially on his favored surface of clay. Van Assche is a capable player but lacks that true weapon that is needed to beat the top players, so give me Cerundolo to win in straight sets here at the 2023 Swedish Open.
