Grigor Dimitrov will meet Emil Ruusuvuori in the Second Round of the 2023 French Open. The match will be played on Thursday June 1st, 2023. 

Grigor Dimitrov is the 28th seed here at Roland Garros, and arrives in Paris in good form on the clay. Recently reaching the Geneva Final, where he lost to Nicolas Jarry, the Bulgarian veteran started strongly, defeating Timofey Skatov in straight sets. While he was not expected to really be tested by his opponent, it was good to see that he was able to dominate the match from the baseline, playing very aggressive tennis. His next opponent Emil Ruusuvuori is a much more accomplished opponent, but still one that Dimitrov is heavily favored to beat. 

Emil Ruusuvuori is unseeded here at the 2023 French Open and is ranked 46th on the ATP Tour. He was surprisingly pushed to five sets by Gregiore Barrere, in a match that many would have expected him to cruise through. He was very wasteful, commiting numerous unforced errors, and he knows that his next opponent Grigor Dimitrov will not allow him to recover from those. At a solid 16-13 on the season he has a big baseline game, capable of troubling his opponent but will certainly have to keep those errors in check. 

This should be a close match, but given their recent form and how they looked in the First Round, I am going with Grigor Dimitrov here. The Bulgarian’s experienced will be a huge asset here against a young opponent like Emil Ruusuvuori, and I expect him to win this one comfortably. Ruusuvuori certainly could catch fire and win a set or two, but I don’t see him being able to sustain that throughout the entire match. I wouldn’t bet the straight sets market, but give me Dimitrov to win here at the 2023 French Open.
