Holger Rune will meet Francisco Cerundolo in the Round of 16 at the 2023 French Open. The match will be played on Monday June 5th, 2023. 

Sixth seeded Holger Rune of Denmark is one of the main contenders to win the title here at the 2023 French Open, and he has backed up those lofty expectations with some strong performances so far. The young star crushed Genaro Olivieri 6-4, 6-1, 6-3 in the Third Round to set up this meeting with Francisco Cerundolo in what is expected to be his toughest match of the tournament. Rune has exceptional movement and simply crushes the ball on both wings, making him an extremely dangerous opponent on this surface. He enters this match as the heavy favorite, but will be wary of the dangerous Cerundolo who has really proven his worth recently. 

Francisco Cerundolo has been just as impressive as his opponent Holger Rune so far here at Roland Garros. The Argentine has really been in great form over the past few seasons, however his upset over Taylor Fritz was a massive win and quite unexpected. Fritz has really stepped his clay-court game recently, but he was simply outclassed by Cerundolo. Fighting from a set down, Cerundolo seemed like a veteran in the way that he kept his cool and ground down the American with some breathtaking tennis. He is the underdog here against Holger Rune, but he has shown time and time again that he is not afraid of top ranked players and will be backing himself here. 

This should be a fantastic tennis match between two rising stars of the ATP Tour. However, it is difficult to look past Holger Rune here. He legitimately looks like a superstar in the making, and has played mature tennis, beyond his age. He has all the tools to go all the way here, and while Francisco Cerundolo will fight and make it difficult, the upside of Rune is simply too great. It won’t be comfortable by any means, but he’ll get the job done here at the 2023 French Open.
