Holger Rune will meet Gael Monfils in the Second Round of the 2023 French Open. The match will be played on Thursday June 1st, 2023. 

Holger Rune is the 6th seed here at the 2023 French Open and is the 6th ranked player in the world. After some magical performances over the past few seasons, he has firmly established himself as one of the best players in the world, and is one of the main contenders for the title here at Roland Garros. However, he did not look convincing in the First Round against Christopher Eubanks, shockingly dropping a set. He is much better than this though, and I am expecting him to take it out on local favorite Gael Monfils. 

Gael Monfils is a former top 10 player who is sadly approaching the end of his career. After a miserable past few seasons, not many would have expected much of him but he put in a magical performance in the First Round to defeat the talented Sebastian Baez, defeating his younger and much higher ranked opponent in five tough sets. His athleticism and dynamic play are world renowned, but it remains to be seen how much he has left in the tank. 

Despite his inconsistent performance in the First Round, I am expecting Holger Rune to dominate this match. Gael Monfils is a great player but is far past his best, and he will be exhausted from his First Round marathon win. Rune tends to get distracted easily, so the Parisian crowd may get into his head, but he will figure it out easily and win comfortably here. Rune in straight sets here at Roland Garros, moving into the Third Round.
