Roberto Bautista Agut will meet Brandon Nakashima in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Halle Open. The match will be played on Wednesday June 21st, 2023. 

Roberto Bautista Agut is the 8th seed here at the 2023 Halle Open and is ranked 23rd on the ATP Tour. The Spaniard defeated Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 6-4 in the First Round in what was a scrappy match, breaking serve once in each set to seal the deal. RBA is a solid grass court player, but since he lacks a major weapon and a big serve he struggles to win free points. He is still good and experienced enough to get the job done against most players, but against a big hitter in Brandon Nakashima, may be in for a battle. 

Brandon Nakashima is unseeded here at the 2023 Halle Open and is 54th on the ATP Tour. The American showed lots of promise last season but has struggled in 2023, sitting at a 7-10 record. He defeated Mikael Ymer in the First Round in three sets, struggling a bit before closing out the 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory. He struck 12 aces but only got 65% of his first serves in play, something that will need to improve against the solid veteran Roberto Bautista Agut who should make him pay if he is too wasteful. 

This is an interesting clash between youth and experience, and it can go either way. Brandon Nakashima has all the tools to be successful on grass, but needs more experience on the surface. In the total reverse, RBA doesn’t quite have the tools, but his determination and experience make him tough on all surfaces, and I think that is what will take him to victory here. His powerful, flat groundstrokes will be a handful on grass, and given how wasteful the American was in the First Round, I like RBA as a pick here. Don’t take the straight sets market, but give me Bautista Agut to win.
