Stefanos Tsitsipas will meet Dominic Thiem in the First Round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championships. The match will be played on Tuesday July 4th, 2023. 

Stefanos Tsitsipas is the 5th seed here at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships and is ranked 5th on the ATP Tour. The Greek star has not had ideal preparation for this year’s event, going 1-3 across his warm up events and generally struggling in each match that he has played. Grass is certainly his least favorite surface, but his serve and experience will be massive assets here. While he is not one of the favorites to win the title, he should not be underestimated. He has a losing record against his first opponent Dominic Thiem, but the Austrian has also struggled lately. 

Dominic Thiem is unseeded here at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships and is ranked 91st in the world. The Austrian was once one of the best players in the world, but a serious injury derailed his progress and he has struggled mightily since his return. Even when in form, grass was a surface that he has always struggled on, and he lost his only grass court match to Alexander Zverev this season. 

Despite his very poor recent form, we have to pick Stefanos Tsitsipas to win this match. He has looked totally out of sorts, but we have to remember that he has won a title on this surface, and his opponent Dominic Thiem has also been out of form. Thiem is a fighter and won’t give up, and there will be a lot of sloppy tennis throughout the match, but Tsitsipas will have enough quality to get it done here at the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
