Taylor Fritz will meet Adrian Mananrino in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Queen’s Championships. The match will be played on Thursday June 22nd, 2023. 

Taylor Fritz is the third seed here at the 2023 Queen’s Championships and is ranked 8th on the ATP Tour. He cruised through his First Round matchup against Bernabe Zapata Miralles, winning 6-4, 7-5 and was rarely troubled. However, if he is to go deeper into this tournament he will have to be more aggressive, and the passive style that he displayed won’t cut it against Adrian Mannarino, a seasoned grass-court veteran. Fritz has a massive serve and baseline game and will need those to be firing to full effect against the Frenchman. 

Adrian Mannarino is unseeded here at the 2023 Queen’s Championships and is ranked 46th in the world. The Frenchman is small in stature and has no major weapons, but inexplicably has been one of the most consistent grass court players of the past few years. He had a big win over Daniil Medvedev last week but looked sloppy in his First Round win over Liam Broady, starting very slowly before eventually recovering to win 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. His steady, flat groundstrokes are difficult to play against on this surface, and he does take the ball extremely early. He is the underdog here against Taylor Fritz but on a good day is capable of upsetting most players on this surface. 

I am expecting a long and difficult battle, and will actually pick Adrian Mannarino to win this match. This match is probably best left avoided from a betting standpoint, but if I had to pick one I am going with solid and experienced over young and flashy. Taylor Fritz is obviously the better player, but he isn’t nearly as comfortable on grass due to the difficult movement, and Mannarino is at home here. It’ll be a grind since he won’t win many if any free points, but give me the Frenchman to cause the big upset here at the 2023 Queen’s Championships.
