Taylor Fritz will meet Francisco Cerundolo in the Third Round of the 2023 French Open. The match will be played on Saturday June 3rd, 2023. 

Eighth seeded Taylor Fritz has been in mixed form so far here at the 2023 French Open. He defeated countryman Michael Mmoh in the First Round comfortably, but struggled in the Second Round against hometown player Arthur Rinderknech. Dropping his serve twice in the first set, he rebounded to win 2-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4. This is only his second time reaching this far at Roland Garros, but he will have to get his act together quickly if he is to get by Francisco Cerundolo who has looked good this season. His serve will have to be much improved as he cannot afford to be broken so often. 

Francisco Cerundolo was impressive in his four set win over the veteran Jaume Munar, and followed suit with a dominant 6-3, 6-3, 6-4 win over Yannick Hanfmann. While he was always in control of the match, there were a few brief periods where he seemed to lose his focus. This cannot happen against a top ten player like Taylor Fritz, and if Cerundolo is to win this match he will have to be locked in. He has the game to cause the upset here, and is much more comfortable on this surface than the American. 

This has the potential to be a thrilling match, and will be full of big serving and good shotmaking. Fritz has the huge advantage when it comes to the serve, but Cerundolo has the edge in terms of movement and consistency. I am expecting this one to go the distance but I am backing Taylor Fritz. It can really go either way, but he will get plenty of free points from his serve while Cerundolo will have to work harder for his. I’m not very confident in this one but I do think that the American has an edge and should move on to the Round of 16 here at Roland Garros.
