Taylor Fritz will meet Marcos Giron in the Round of 16 at the 2023 Geneva Open. The match will be played on Wednesday May 24th, 2023.
Taylor Fritz is the second seed here at the 2023 Geneva Open and is ranked 9th on the ATP Tour. The top American is much more known for his hard court prowess, but he has made strides on the clay over the past few seasons. He reached the Semis in Monte-Carlo and Munich on this surface, showing his ability and he is expected to go deep into the draw here in Geneva. He will be looking to put his poor results in Madrid and Rome behind him and gets his campaign going here against countryman Marcos Giron, in a match where he is heavily favored.
Marcos Giron is unseeded here at the 2023 Geneva Open and is ranked 74th in the world. The American is a very consistent and hardworking player with a decent resume, but no huge wins of note on this surface. He was very impressive in his upset First Round win over Alexander Bublik however, smashing the Kazakh 6-0, 6-4, not dropping serve in the process. He is the big underdog here against Taylor Fritz, but his game is very hard to play against, retrieving everyting and forcing opponents to hit through him. Unfortunately for Giron, Fritz has some of the biggest groundstrokes in the game and will be looking to do just that.
This should be a walk in the park for Taylor Fritz. Marcos Giron is a good player, but is simply not in the same league. Fritz has the advantage in every single category, especially on this surface and I expect him to bludgeon Giron from the baseline here. Giron is a fighter and won't go away easily, but won't be able to match his countryman's game and Fritz will advance quite easily here at the 2023 Geneva Open.
