Tommy Paul will meet Nicolas Jarry in the Second Round of the 2023 French Open. The match will be played on Thursday June 1st, 2023. 

Sixteenth seeded Tommy Paul started his 2023 French Open campaign with a bang, defeating Dominic Stricker 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 without much difficulties. The American is much better known for his hard court capabilities but has shown that he is no slouch on the clay. He was a bit wasteful on his serve during that match however, something that he will need to improve on since holding serve will be critical. His opponent Nicolas Jarry has one of the strongest serves on tour and he will likeld struggle to break him often. 

Nicolas Jarry of Chile is unseeded here at the 2023 French Open but arrives in Paris in title-winning form. He recently won the tournament in Geneva, a huge confidence-booster for him. He had a solid victory over clay-court specialist Hugo-Dellien in straight sets in his opener, with his huge serve dictating play. He certainly has the firepower to win here against Tommy Paul but will need to keep his unforced errors in check as he can be quite wasteful at times. 

This should be a very close match between players of contrasting styles. Nicolas Jarry should dominate with his serve, but Tommy Paul won’t make things easy for him on the return. It’s looking likely that we will have at least couple tiebreakers, and I usually back the bigger server in those situations. I am expecting a five set thriller, with Tommy Paul barely getting over the line. He is a bit more steady and patient, and I think that will be the difference here.
