Ugo Humbert will meet Kevin Anderson in the Quarter-Finals of the 2023 Hall of Fame Championships in Newport. The match will be played on Thursday July 20th, 2023. 

Ugo Humbert is the 40th ranked player in the world and is the third seed here at the 2023 Hall of Fame Championships. The Frenchman won the biggest title of his career in Halle five years ago, showing how dangerous he can be on this surface. After a First Round bye he cruised past Steve Johnson 6-4, 6-4, setting up a clash against the veteran Kevin Anderson for a spot in the Semi-Finals. While he does not have a major weapon he has a very solid all-around game and is comfortable approaching the net. He is the favorite here, but Anderson was once one of the best players in the world and should not be discounted. 

Kevin Anderson is unseeded here at the 2023 Hall of Fame Championships and was once ranked as high as #5 on the ATP Tour. The huge serving South African was also once a Wimbledon Finalist, and his serve is a major weapon on this surface. He is yet to drop a set so far this week, and will have his eyes set on yet another win. His opponent Ugo Humbert is very inconsistent, and the stage is set perfectly for Anderson to continue his triumphant return to the Tour. 

This is a difficult match to call, given Ugo Humbert’s unpredictability, and the fact that Kevin Anderson has hardly played over the past two years. Humbert is the safe play since there are no question marks over his fitness, but we cannot ignore Anderson’s experience, and his huge serve which is by far the biggest weapon between the two. I think it will go the distance, but I am backing experience here, and expect Kevin Anderson to get the win, serving his way to the Semi-Finals here at the 2023 Hall of Fame Championships.
