Second seeded Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka will face the eighth seed Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic in the Quarter-Finals of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday September 7th, 2021 at 7:00pm EST.

A thrilling match is expected here at the 2021 US Open as Aryna Sabalenka meets Barbora Krejcikova for a spot in the Semi-Finals in New York. Both women are seemingly in top form and all signs point towards this being a fantastic match full of high quality tennis. They are two of the main contenders for the title here and whoever wins will be one step closer to lifting the trophy, who has what it takes to advance here?

Aryna Sabalenka is the world number two player and the second seed here at the 2021 US Open. After her impressive run to the Wimbledon Semis she has not played many events other than the two major US Open warm up events. A Semi-Final showing at the Rogers Cup was followed by a First Round loss to Paula Badosa in Cincinnati. In the First Round she was surprisingly taken to three sets by Nina Stojanic but has since been on a tear, defeating Tamara Zidansek, Danielle Collins and Elise Mertens without dropping a set. In this type of form she is extremely difficult to beat, with her huge groundstrokes among the biggest weapons on the WTA Tour. She should be considered the slight favorite here against Barbora Krejcikova, but her opponent is one of the most steady and consistent players in the world and Sabalenka will definitely have to be at her best to get the win here, and it is extremely important that she keeps her unforced error count low.

Barbora Krejcikova is the eighth seed here at the 2021 US Open and is ranked #9 in the world rankings. The Czech star has taken the WTA Tour by storm this season, winning three WTA titles including a maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open. Primarily known as a doubles player, she had never even won a WTA singles of any kind before this season and has really turned heads in 2021. She had a good warm up series for this event and that has translated well here in New York, as she has cruised to the Quarter-Finals without dropping a set, including an impressive Round of 16 win over Garbine Muguruza in the Round of 16. Her game is ultra consistent and steady, and she is very adept at the net which allows her to use a lot of variation in her matches, throwing her opponents off their rhythm. Like her opponent Aryna Sabalenka she is in fantastic form and will be tough to beat here. It is hard to call her the underdog here due to her current form and Grand Slam winning pedigree, but one thing for sure is that this will be a very close and interesting match.

This will be the second meeting between the two players, with Sabalenka leading the head to head series 1-0. I am expecting a very close match here, almost certainly going to three sets. The Belarusian has the higher upside if she is clicking, but her game is extremely hit or miss and hard to trust. Barbora Krejcikova is one of the most steady players on the tour and is unlikely to give many free points away. The formula for this match is simple. If Sabalenka comes out blazing and is consistently making her huge groundstrokes she is very likely to win this match. If she is very erratic and gets frustrated by her opponent’s style, she is likely to lose. Given her recent form, I am going to predict that she keeps the momentum going and is going to win a tough match here, advancing to the Semi-Finals here at the 2021 US Open.
