US Open: Daniil Medvedev vs. Felix Auger-Aliassime 9/10/21 Tennis Prediction
Daniil Medvedev vs Felix Auger-Aliassime
September 10, 2021 3:00 pm EDT
Second seeded Russian Daniil Medvedev will face twelfth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada in the Semi-Finals of the 2021 US Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Friday September 10th, 2021 at 3:00pm EST.
Daniil Medvedev has been in fantastic form so far at the 2021 US Open as he seeks to win his first Grand Slam title. The big Russian has come close here before, reaching the Final in 2019 and falling just short. He was one of the pre-tournament favorites and has backed that up with some outstanding performances. Next up in his path is the young Canadian Phenom Felix Auger-Aliassime who is in his first major Semi-Final. While he has not had as easy of a path to the Final, he has turned heads with his maturity and has an explosive game that is capable of beating anyone on a good day. Can he cause the major upset and advance to the Final here in New York?
Daniil Medvedev is currently ranked #2 in the world and is the second seed here at the 2021 US Open. He has established himself as one of the premier hard court players in the world and has won many titles on the surface. Medvedev has only dropped one set en route to the Semis, after being surprisingly pushed to four sets by Qualier Botic van de Zandschulp in the Quarter-Finals. He has been serving extremely well and has just been dominant from the baseline here. Felix Auger-Aliassime is a very powerful opponent but the Russian has just the game to counteract his aggressive style of play and enters this match as the massive favorite to advance to his second US Open Final.
Felix Auger-Aliassime is the twelfth seed here at the 2021 US Open and is ranked number fifteen on the ATP Tour. The young Canadian star has had a tough path to the Semis but has been very impressive, beating highly rated stars Roberto Bautista Agut and Frances Tiafoe to reach this stage. He will be well rested, as his Quarter-Final opponent Carlos Alcaraz withdrew in the second set due to injury, but that will not be much of an advantage at all since his opponent has spent less time than him on the court. His explosive game can rival anyone on its day but he is running into Daniil Medvedev who is in outstanding form. FAA will have to serve extremely well and keep his error count low if he is to have much of a chance here.
This is the second time that the two players are facing each other on the ATP Tour with Medvedev leading the head to head 1-0. He won a tough three setter in Canada three years ago, but since then has gone on to cement himself in the top five of the rankings. I am expecting a very dynamic match with some thrilling tennis from both players. However, Daniil Medvedev is simply too good and too consistent for his opponent Felix Auger-Aliassime here. FAA will give it his all and has clearly matured as a player, but is not yet ready to advance to his first Major Final. The Russian is just too steady, and his counterpunching ability will wear the young Canadian down and draw him into making numerous errors. FAA is good enough to possibly win a set, but he won’t have enough to stop the Russian here, who will advance to yet another US Open Final.
