China and Australia face-off on Friday morning in a women’s basketball showdown at the Olympics. China came away with a win in their first game while Australia was defeated.
China has high hopes for these Olympics, and they were impressive in the first game of the Olympics. China faced off with Puerto Rico, and the offense was elite putting up 97 points and that led to the 42 victory. Li Meng scored 15 points for China to pace the team. Han Xu also had a big game finishing with 11 points, and 14 rebounds. China shot 55.6 percent from the deep but only 36.8 percent from deep. In this game for China it’s going to be about the offense running up the score and pushing the pace again. China has to know though that this is going to be a tougher battle, and they can’t just assume that they are going to be able to outrun Australia to come away with the victory.
On the other side of this matchup is Australia who opened up their Olympics against Belgium, and their defense really struggled as they were defeated 85-70. Ezi Magbegor is the best player for Australia and in the last game she finished with 20 points and eight rebounds. Four of the five starters for Australia finished in double figures, and it’s clear that the offense is not an issue for this team. The biggest issue in the first game was with the defense, and if they want to win this game, the defense is going to need to be a whole lot better.
China looked impressive in the first game, and they have a whole lot of confidence heading into this one. I am taking the points with China as the play to be safe, but I am also sprinkling a few dollars on China to win on the money line.
