China and Serbia face off on Tuesday night in a women’s basketball Olympic quarterfinal. The winner of this game moves onto the semi-finals, with the loser being eliminated.
China has won each of its three games so far during the Olympics. China opened up their Olympics with a win against Belgium and followed up that with wins over Australia and Puerto Rico. In that last game against Puerto Rico, the offense was elite scoring 97 points, and that led to the blowout victory. Four different players in the last game against Puerto Rico scored in double figures. Li Yueru has been the start for the Chinese team during the Olympics, and in the last game she put up 21 points and 12 rebounds. China shot 55.6 percent from the field and they are going to need the offense to be good early and not fall behind. If they fall behind, this game could be a long game.
On the other side of this matchup is Serbia who have won two of their three games so far this season. Serbia opened up their Olympics with a win against South Korea, but in the second game, they lost by 15 points to Spain. In the second game, Serbia bounced back against Canada winning 72-68. Serbia has used a balanced attack and in the last game, it was four players who finished with at least 10 points per game. The best player for Serbia is Sonja Vasić and in the last game, she finished with 16 points, including making two of her three shots from deep. In the one game that Serbia lost, the defense was a big issue, and they need the defense to step up in this one.
China is the better team, and they should have no issue running up the score in this game against Serbia. Look for China to cruise to an easy victory, and China will come away with a cover of the spread.
