South Korea and Serbia face off on Sunday Morning in a women’s basketball Olympic showdown. South Korea has lost both of their games while Serbia sits with a 1-1 record.
South Korea opened up their Olympics with a blowout loss against Canada, but in the last game, they were a little more competitive against Spain only losing by four points. In the first game, the South Korea offense only managed 53 points, but in the last game, they had a little more success finishing with 73 points. Kang Leeseul has been the best player for Serbia in these Olympics and in the last game she finished with 26 points and seven rebounds. In the last game, South Korea had three players score at least 14 points, but outside of that, there wasn’t a whole lot of production. If South Korea wants to pull off the upset, they need the offense to be better.
On the other side of this matchup is Serbia who opened up their Olympics with a loss against Spain, a game they gave up 85 points in. In the last game against Canada, Serbia looked a lot better beating Canada 72-68. This is a must-win for Serbia, and there is no doubt they will play with a sense of urgency. Serbia has used a balanced attack with their offense and in the last game, four of the five starters scored at least ten points. Sonja Vasić was the best player pacing the team with 16 points. In this game for Serbia, it’s going to be about the offense running up the score early, and trying to make this a faster-paced game. The faster the pace, the better the chance for Serbia to get the job done.
Serbia is the more talented team, but this is too many points to lay with them, and I think they are going to have some struggles pulling away with a blowout victory. Serbia is going to come away with the victory, but South Korea will play enough defense to cover the spread.
