South Alabama vs Southern Miss 12/1/21 College Basketball Picks, Predictions, Odds

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the South Alabama Jaguars meet in college basketball action from the Mitchell Center on Wednesday night.

The Southern Miss Golden Eagles will be out to bounce back from a 74-62 loss to Montana last time out. Isaih Moore leads Southern Miss in scoring with 14.1 PPG along with 7.6 RPG while Tae Hardy has 13.7 PPg and Tyler Stevenson has 11.5 PPG with a team-high 8.7 RPG to make up the trio of double-digit scorers for Southern Miss so far this season. Waltn Napper’s also dishing out a team-high 4.7 APG as well on the year. As a team, Southern Miss is averaging 65.3 PPG on 42.9% shooting from the field, 29.4% from three and 68.5% from the foul line while allowing 69.4 PPG on 40% shooting from the field and 34% from three this season.

The South Alabama Jaguars will be out to add ot their 69-66 win over subdivision Texas A&M Commerce last time out. Charles Manning Jr. leads the Jaguars in scoring and assists with 17.8 PPG and 3.5 APG while Jay Jay Chandler has 14.5 PPG and 4.5 RPG as the only other double-digit scorer for South Alabama so far this season. Diante Smith has 9.9 PPG and 4.3 RPG while Javon Franklin has 8 PPG and a team-high 6.2 RPG. As a team, South Alabama is averaging 76.4 PPG on 45% shooting from the field, 30.6% from three and 67.1% from the foul line while allowing 59.8 PPG on 39.2% shooting from the field and 30.1% from three this season.

Southern Miss is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games against a team with a winning home record and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall while the over is 5-1-1 in their last 7 games as a road underdog. I would get the case to be made for South Alabama laying points at home, but their four home games so far have all been unlined against subdivision opponents, so it’s hard to really know what Southern Miss is up against. One thing I do know is that the Golden Eagles have taken on some stiff competition so far this season and I think that’s going to serve them well here against a fairly unproven South Alabama team. And when I say unproven, I mean as to how well they’ll defend home soil. Give me Southern Miss and the points here.
