The UNC Asheville Bulldogs and the Auburn Tigers meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Von Braun Center. UNC Asheville dropped back to .500 through 10 games with a loss to Western Carolina in their last outing. As for Auburn, they’re 6-2 on the year following a win over Indiana on Saturday. UNC Asheville Bulldogs 

The Bulldogs lost their first two games this year, falling to Michigan and UNC Wilmington in succession. UNC Asheville recovered with wins over Carolina University, Virginia-Lynchburg, Wofford, Western Kentucky and Johnson University TN in the next six outings, but then took an overtime loss to Kennesaw State. 

Back on Saturday versus Western Carolina, the Bulldogs took another loss. Following a 38-29 deficit in the first half, UNC Asheville closed on a 40-34 run for a 78-63 result. Tops in scoring was Fletcher Abee with 21 points and two assists. Drew Pember added 18 points with six rebounds as well.

Auburn Tigers 

Over on the Auburn side, they lost their opener this year to Baylor 88-82. The Tigers would then hit a win streak over SE Louisiana, Notre Dame, St. Bonaventure, Alabama A&M and Virginia Tech before another loss to Appalachian State. Auburn shot just 11.1 percent (3-of-27) in the loss to the Mountaineers. 

The Tigers were able to get back into the win column in their latest matchup versus Indiana. Auburn held a 52-34 edge by the end of the first half, then closed with a 52-42 advantage for a 104-76 finish. Leading the team were Jaylin Williams and Aden Holloway, each with 24 points and a combined nine assists. Auburn will continue with its homestand after this one. The Tigers will meet USC, Alabama State, Chattanooga, and Penn. 

ANDREW’S FREE UNC ASHEVILLE VS AUBURN PREDICTION 

I’ll stay with Auburn. The Tigers were able to rebound from their latest loss nicely in their last matchup versus Indiana, shooting 48.6 percent overall and 48.3 percent from 3-point range. Auburn also controlled the ball well with 39 rebounds and just three turnovers. In seven of eight games so far this year, the Tigers have hit 74 or more points. 

As for UNC Asheville, they had a pretty flat offensive outing in their last matchup. The Bulldogs have generally scored well against comparable teams this year, however it’s probably going to be tough for them to keep up on Wednesday if Auburn gets going. I like the Tigers to roll here.
