The Bowling Green Falcons and the Oakland Golden Grizzlies meet Tuesday in college basketball action from Athletics Center O’rena. Bowling Green is 2-0 on the year after a Saturday victory versus Arkansas State. As for Oakland, they’re 0-2 so far and coming off a loss to Illinois. Bowling Green Falcons

The Falcons kicked off the season with a pretty easy matchup versus Chicago State. Bowling Green overpowered the Cougars 32-21 in the first half, then scored 38 more points in an eventual win 70-41. Marcus Hill was the team’s top scorer on 18 points and five rebounds. Rashaun Agee added 14 points with eight boards as well. 

Game two was a little closer for Bowling Green, but they still pulled off a solid win. The Falcons took on Arkansas State on Saturday, heading into the locker room with a 34-31 edge. Bowling Green was able to fend off the Red Wolves in the second and got the win 81-75. Hill (26 points) and DaJion Humphrey (22 points) were the top contributors in that one. 

Oakland Golden Grizzlies 

Over on the Grizzlies’ side, they’ve had a couple of tough matchups on their schedule so far. First came an opener game versus Ohio State. Oakland was out-rebounded 42-30 in that one but had a one-point lead at halftime in an eventual loss 79-73. Jack Gohlke topped the team on 18 points, and Trey Townsend added 17 points with nine boards. 

In Friday’s matchup versus a very good Illinois team, Oakland was again within striking distance at the half—down just 28-27. The Grizzlies were outscored by 10 points from there however and lost 64-53. Townsend was the only player in double-digits this time with 19 points and 10 rebounds. 

ANDREW’S FREE PICK 

I might take a stab on Oakland here. The Grizzlies’ 0-2 record looks pretty rough at first glance, but they’ve performed admirably in two very difficult road games so far. Oakland didn’t shoot particularly well versus Illinois, hitting 37.5 percent from the field and 25 percent (5-of-20) from 3-point range. That said, the Grizzles held strong on the boards with 32 rebounds and managed seven steals. 

As for Bowling Green, they started a bit slow versus Arkansas State in their last game. The Falcons hit their stride after halftime though, and pulled off a solid win. This one’s probably going to be a trickier matchup though, as Oakland has been seasoned versus two big schools so far. I like the Grizzlies to power out the cover/win but it’ll be close.
