The Santa Clara Broncos and the Saint Mary’s Gaels meet Wednesday in college basketball action from McKeon Pavilion in Moraga. Here’s a Saint Mary’s vs. Santa Clara prediction. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best Saint Mary’s vs. Santa Clara pick.
Santa Clara Broncos Betting Preview
The Broncos kicked off their season on a pretty nice run, losing just five of their first 18 games overall. Santa Clara then took out Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, San Francisco, LMU, Pacific, Washington State, and Seattle U before a loss to Gonzaga. After a win over San Francisco, the Broncos are sitting at 23-6 overall this year.
In the San Francisco game on Saturday, the Broncos were up 44-38 going into the second half. Santa Clara hit a 50-35 run the rest of the way, powering out a 94-73 victory in the end. Leading the team in scoring was Elijah Mahi with 30 points, four steals, and seven rebounds. Christian Hammond added 18 points with three assists, and Thierry Darlan had 15 points with four steals.
Saint Mary’s Gaels Betting Preview
Over on the Saint Mary’s side, they only took two losses in their first 19 games this year, going 17-2 overall. The Gaels hit a 2-2 run with losses to Santa Clara and Gonzaga after that, then beat San Diego, San Francisco, Pepperdine, Pacific, Seattle U, and Washington State. Over the first 29 games this year, that gives the Gaels a 25-4 overall record in the books.
Matched up against Washington State over the weekend, the Gaels held a slim 40-39 lead in the locker room. In the second half, Saint Mary’s hit a 43-28 run and took the victory on the road in the end, 83-67. Leading the team in scoring was Joshua Dent with 22 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Paulius Murauskas added 17 points with 12 boards as well.

Saint Mary’s vs Santa Clara Prediction
I’ll take a stab at Saint Mary’s, but you could argue it either way. The Gaels didn’t have too many issues in a road win over Washington State last weekend, hitting 54.2 percent from the field and 10-of-20 from 3-point range. The 34-19 rebounding advantage and 12 team assists were nice as well. That gives Saint Mary’s a six-game win streak with 72 or more points scored in each.
These teams last saw each other back on January 17 in a 62-54 road loss for the Gaels. In that one, Saint Mary’s shot horribly from the field (31.6 percent) and 3-point range (18.2 percent on 4-of-22) alongside a 36-26 deficit on points in the paint. The Gaels are playing well lately, though, and should get a lift from the home setting.
