The Longwood Lancers and the UNC Asheville Bulldogs meet Wednesday in college basketball action from Kimmel Arena. Longwood is currently 15-5 on the year and coming off a win over Winthrop. As for UNC Asheville, they’re sitting at 12-9 so far. The Bulldogs beat Presbyterian in their last game. Check back all season long for free college basketball picks at Sports Chat Place.

Longwood posted a sketchy 4-4 record over their first eight games. The Lancers have only lost one game (versus Abilene Christian) since then, however. Longwood has beaten Hampton, North Carolina A&T and Winthrop in their last trio alone.

In the Winthrop game, the Lancers scored 38 points in the first half and 54 more in the second during a 92-88 win. Leading the scoring was Justin Hill with 29 points and seven boards. DeShaun Wade chipped in 18 points as well.

Over on the UNC Asheville side, they hit a pretty solid 10-5 run over their first 15 games to start the year. The Bulldogs are just 2-4 since then, however. They’ve lost to Winthrop, USC Upstate, North Carolina A&T and Gardner-Webb with wins over Radford and Presbyterian otherwise.

In the Presbyterian matchup on Saturday, the Bulldogs had a two-point lead at halftime. UNC Asheville was able to hang on for the eventual 68-67 win. LJ Thorpe had 28 points to lead the team and Drew Pember added 18 points and nine rebounds.

The Bulldogs are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Wednesday games and the over is 5-1 in their last six overall. The over is 5-2 in UNC Asheville’s last seven at home.

Meanwhile, the Lancers are 7-1 ATS in their last eight after an ATS win and 21-8 ATS in their last 29 overall. Longwood is 6-1 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win.

PICK: I’m going to stay with Longwood here. The Lancers are riding a nice eight-game win streak right now and playing well. They’ve hit 71 or more points in seven of those games so scoring hasn’t been an issue. As for the Bulldogs, they’ve managed 68 or more points in six of their last seven games so it wouldn’t be surprising to see this one as a high total. Ultimately I think Longwood can stick out the cover, though.
