The Arizona Wildcats meet the UCLA Bruins Saturday in week 6 2021 Pac-12 college football action from Arizona Stadium. UCLA is coming off a matchup versus Arizona State. In that one, the Bruins fell in a blowout. As for the Wildcats, they had a bye last week. Their last appearance was a big loss versus Oregon. UCLA began their year with a big win over Hawaii 44-10. The Bruins would keep it going in week two with a 38-27 win over LSU, but they faltered in their next outing versus Fresno State with a tough 40-37 loss. UCLA would bounce back with a 35-24 win over Stanford, though.
Last weekend versus Arizona State, UCLA was outscored 18-0 in the second half during a 42-23 loss. QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson put up 235 yards and a TD, while also leading the rush with 96 yards on 19 carries. Greg Dulcich caught nine balls for 136 yards as well.
Over on the Wildcats’ side, there hasn’t been much to get excited about so far. Arizona is yet to record a win amid a few tough opponents. The Wildcats have fallen 24-16 to BYU, 38-14 to San Diego State, 21-19 to Northern Arizona and 41-19 to Oregon so far.
In the blowout loss to Oregon their last time out, the Wildcats fought back in the third quarter, but were done in by a 17-0 deficit in the fourth. QB Jordan McCloud put up 233 yards, one TD and five picks, while Drake Anderson rushed 21 times for 67 yards and a score.
The Bruins are 13-31 ATS in their last 44 in October and 1-4 ATS in their last five after a bye. The over is 4-0 in UCLA’s last four in October as well.
Meanwhile, the Wildcats are 16-35-1 ATS in their last 52 after an ATS win and 4-12 ATS in the last 16 overall. Arizona is 1-4 ATS in their last five at home.
PICK: I’m going to take a wild stab on Arizona. Sure, the Wildcats have been skidding so far this year at 0-4, but there are some positive signs amid these tough matchups. Arizona put up 435 total yards against a good Oregon team, posting 31 first downs, 88 total plays and a 11-of-19 mark on third- and fourth-down tries. The five picks were killer, though.
As for UCLA, they were looking okay until the second half on Saturday. The Bruins posted 435 yards of offense with 23 first downs and 84 total plays, but couldn’t match the fiery pace of the Sun Devils (8.9 yards per play). This looks like a pretty tight matchup but I think the Wildcats will prevail in a cover.
