Draftkings Best WNBA Showdown Picks: Fever vs. Aces 7/2/24

Draftkings picks and predictions for tonight's Fever vs. Aces matchup.

Indiana Fever vs. Las Vegas Aces
July 2, 2024 7:30 pm EDT

The WNBA presents a matchup between the Indiana Fever and Las Vegas Aces. Let’s take a look at this game from a Draftkings perspective.

Before we dive into the Indiana Fever vs. Las Vegas Aces game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

If you have additional questions regarding the rules for the single game showdown contest, I recommend that you check out the Draftkings website for more details.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for this evening’s Indiana Fever vs. Las Vegas Aces matchup.

Draftkings Picks

Captain-A’ja Wilson, Forward, Las Vegas Aces $13,000

Talented Las Vegas forward A’ja Wilson has been the presence in the paint that the Las Vegas Aces have needed to win games this season. Having stated that, how has Wilson been playing from an offensive standpoint in 2024?

In the 16 games that Las Vegas forward A’ja Wilson has played for the Las Vegas Aces in the 2024 WNBA regular season, Wilson averaged 26.9 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.9 steals, and 2.3 blocks a game.

Looking closer at the data just presented, in the 16 games that Aces forward A’ja Wilson has played for the Las Vegas Aces this season, Wilson has accumulated a whopping 53.5 Draftkings points a game. It has to be said, that is the type of fantasy production I need from a player I select at the captain position.

I also like A’ja Wilson’s matchup in this game. Wilson draws an Indiana Fever team that has struggled on the defensive side of the basketball all season. Through 16 games played in the 2024 WNBA regular season, the Indiana Fever are currently ranked a dreadful 12th in total team defensive rating (108.9), 12th in total opponent second chance points allowed a game (12.6), and ninth in total points allowed in the paint a game (36.4). Clearly, the data just presented tells us that the Indiana Fever are not a good defensive team.

Now that we have ascertained just how bad the Indiana Fever’s defense is in the 2024 WNBA regular season, it is easy to recognize the problem the Fever face in Las Vegas later today. A’ja Wilson is one of the best players in the league. If Indiana can’t handle some of the lower-level talent in the league, how will the team respond versus A’ja Wilson? My prediction is the Fever can’t handle Wilson in the paint.

For the reasons just noted, I am backing Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson as my captain for tonight’s Draftkings WNBA DFS contest.

Flex Plays

Caitlin Clark, Guard, Indiana Fever $11,000

Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark has wasted little time showing basketball fans that she belongs in the WNBA. Through 16 games played this season, Clark is averaging 16.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 6.9 assists, 1.4 steals, and 1 block a game.

I like Caitlin Clark’s chances of continuing her outstanding play on the basketball court later today in Nevada.

Additional players I like (Draftkings price noted): Kelsey Plum, Guard (Las Vegas) $8,000: Aliyah Boston, Forward (Indiana) $9,600: Kristy Wallace, Guard (Indiana) $4,000: Katie Lou Samuelson, Forward (Indiana) $3,600.
