Breaking down the best Draftkings picks for this evening's Mets vs. Brewers matchup.

New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers
October 2, 2024 7:38 pm EDT

On Wednesday night, Major League Baseball presents Draftkings baseball fans with a playoff matchup between the New York Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers. Let’s take a look at this MLB game from a DFS perspective.

Before we dive into the New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers game let’s review the rules for the Draftkings single game showdown contest.

Draftkings Single Game Showdown Contest Rules

You have $50,000 to utilize on five players from either team. However, one of those players will be designated as your team captain. The captain accumulates 1.5 times the standard fantasy points. Additionally, the captain is 1.5 times the standard cost of the flex position.

The remaining four players in your lineup will receive the standard fantasy points. Having stated that, it is highly important for you to identify the correct player for your captain position if you hope to win a large field DFS GPP (guaranteed prize pool) showdown contest.

*I recommend that all readers review the starting lineups for both teams prior to setting your DFS lineup for this one game slate.

Here are my Draftkings picks for this evening’s New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers matchup.

Draftkings MLB Showdown Picks

Captain-Freddy Peralta, Starting Pitcher, Milwaukee Brewers $11,400

On Wednesday night, Major League Baseball presents the first game of a National League Wild Card playoff series featuring the New York Mets and the Milwaukee Brewers.

How are these two teams playing entering today’s MLB playoff game? The Milwaukee Brewers arrive at the opening game of this National League Wild Card series with the New York Mets playing rather good baseball. The Brewers won five of the team’s last eight games played in the 2024 MLB regular season, including a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates six days ago.

In direct contrast to the Milwaukee Brewers, the New York Mets have been playing below average baseball recently. More specifically, the New York Mets have lost four of the team’s last seven games played this season, including a 5-1 loss to the Atlanta Braves last week.

It should be noted that the New York Mets won the opening game of this American League Wild Card playoff series defeating the Milwaukee Brewers 8-4.

Now that we have identified how both of these Major League Baseball teams are currently playing let’s shift our focus to today’s American League Wild Card game.

New York pitcher Sean Manaea has established himself as a valuable member of the New York Mets starting pitching rotation in 2024. Having stated that, how has Manaea been playing from a statistical standpoint this season? Let’s take a look at Sean Manaea’s recent game data to answer that question.

In the 32 games that Sean Manaea pitched for the New York Mets in the 2024 MLB regular season, Manaea posted a 3.47 ERA (Earned Run Average), 1.08 WHIP (walks, hits, inning pitched) and added 184 strikeouts while allowing 63 walks.

More recently, in the New York Mets 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies 12 days ago, Mets hurler Sean Manaea pitched exceptionally well. More specifically, Manaea struck out six Phillies batter while pitching seven quality innings scattering three hits and three earned runs in the Mets victory over the Phillies.

For the reasons just noted, I am backing New York Mets starting pitcher Sean Manaea at the captain position for this one game DFS MLB Showdown slate.

Flex plays I like to play well this evening (Draftkings price noted): Frankie Montas, Starting Pitcher (Milwaukee Brewers) $10,600: Francisco Lindor, Shortstop (New York Mets) $9,800: Jackson Chourio, Outfielder (Milwaukee Brewers) $8,400.
