The battle for the top of the AL West begins when the Texas Rangers visit the Oakland Athletics.
The Rangers slumped and Oakland jumped on the opportunity to take over the American League West. However, Texas is trying to right the ship and return the favor with four consecutive victories after a 7-1 decision over the visiting Diamondbacks. The good times have to continue because Oakland will step on their throats otherwise. The Rangers put every thing together Thursday behind a Yu Darvish gem that saw him allow five hits and strikeout 14 over seven innings pitched. The bats didn't waste that performance with eleven hits and a walk with David Murphy, Mitch Moreland and AJ Pierzynski blasting home runs. Alexi Ogando toes the rubber in game one versus Oakland on Friday. Ogando is coming in off of a 6-0 loss at Cleveland, where he allowed one run on six hits and two BB in 4.2 frames, but threw 92 pitches.

Heading into the weekend showdown with Texas, Oakland has dropped back to back contests following a 5-2, ten inning decision to the visiting Blue Jays on Wednesday. Not the most ideal situation when preparing to face your only threat in the American League West. When the Athletics are playing well, both the arms and the bats are contributing and that wasn't the case Wednesday. This one couldn't be blamed on starter Bartolo Colon, who gave up two runs (one earned) over six frames, but Jesse Chavez was not so good with three runs plated in th 10th in 1/3 of an inning for the loss. The Oakland attack produced eight hits and walked once, with both their runs scoring on errors. Lefty Tom Milone is scheduled to face the Rangers in game one of their weekend set. Milone would like nothing better than to duplicate his 3-1 victory over the Angels, where he allowed one run on four hits and four walks in seven innings.
My initial thought was Oakland who I think is the better team, but I think Ogando can even things out so I'll take a shot with the visitors at good odds...
