The Los Angeles Angles and Houston Astros will begin a four-game series on Friday night. The Angles were swept by the Seattle Mariners, while the Astros took two of three from the New York Yankees.
The Angels looked a lot like the disappointing team they were last season, scoring just eight runs in their first three games. The Angels pitching wasn’t any better, as they’ve allowed 25 earned runs in 27 innings. Garrett Richards will try to change the Angels luck, as he gets his first start of the season. Richards started seven games last year for the Angels, finishing 7-8 with an ERA of 4.16. Richards has only started 29 games in his career, but he’s 6-4 on the road and has 157 strikeouts in 230 innings pitched.

The Astros have been the biggest surprise of opening week, winning a series against the Yankees. The Astros starting pitching held the Yankees to just six total runs. Lucas Harrell hopes to keep the momentum going for Houston, as he’ll get his first start of the year. Harrell finished 6-17 last season with an ERA of 5.86. While those numbers aren’t pretty, Harrell did start three games against the Angels last season and allowed just 4 runs in 17.2 innings.
The Angels are 4-1 in their last 5 games as a road favorite and 0-5 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter. The Astros are 1-4 in their last 5 during game 1 of a series and 3-13 in Harrells last 16 starts. The Angels are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings in Houston.
We have an overachieving Astros club at home against an underachieving Angel’s team on the road. While I may be crazy, I have to take the Angels in this spot. Los Angeles can’t be nearly as bad as its record to start the season and Harrell doesn’t have a good history as a starting pitcher.
Give me the more talented Angels team at the sweet price.
