New York Yankees vs. New York Mets – 8/30/20 MLB Pick, Odds, and Prediction

2020-08-30 13:05:00 EDT

The New York Mets and the New York Yankees meet in another installment of the Subway Series in MLB action from Yankee Stadium on Sunday in game one of a double-header.

The New York Mets come into this one looking to get a leg up on the Yankees after dropping Saturday’s matchup by a final score of 2-1. Wilson Ramos’ solo home run in the 8th inning was the lone RBI the Mets would plate as the Mets went 2 for 3 at the dish. Pete Alonso and Amed Rosario each had a base hit as the Mets cranked out just four hits as a team in the losing effort. Robert Gsellman allowed one run on four hits while striking out four over four innings of work in the start, not factoring in the decision. Dellin Betances took the loss, falling to 0-1 on the year in relief. Rick Porcello takes the hill in game one and is 1-4 with a 6.43 ERA and 25 strikeouts this season. In his career, Porcello is 11-10 with a 3.96 ERA and 120 strikeouts against the Yankees.

The New York Yankees will look to build off the win over the Mets on Saturday that snapped their losing streak which almost became the longest skid in 25 years for the Yankees. Luke Voit had a solo home run in the 1st while DJ LeMahieu had a triple and Brett Gardner added a double. Jordy Mercer and Mike Tauchman each added a base hit as well in the victory for the Bronz Bombers. J.A. Happ threw 7.1 scoreless innings, giving up just three hits while striking out five, not factoring in the decision. Aroldis Chapman got the win to improve to 1-1 on the year as a result. Mike King will start here and is 1-1 with a 5.74 ERA and 13 strikeouts this season. This will be King’s first career start against the Mets.

The Mets are 6-2 in their last 8 games overall and 4-1 in their last 5 road games while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games as a road underdog. The Yankees are 66-24 in their last 90 home games and 1-7 in their last 8 games overall while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 opening halves of a double-header. The Mets are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

Getting plus money with the Mets and a veteran like Porcello is worth a look when the Yankees haven’t been great to begin with, but Porcello’s been shelled for the most part this season. On the other hand, King hasn’t been all that great in his own right and the Mets have been alright at plating runs as of late. Instead of trying to pick a side here, I’ll take the over. I think both pitchers get roughed up here and even in a shortened game I think we could see double-digit runs here.
