The Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres meet Saturday in MLB action from Petco Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game set between these teams over the weekend. In the series opener Friday, San Diego put up a two-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Colorado played the Diamondbacks this week, losing Tuesday and Wednesday before a Thursday victory 9-3. In the Friday opener versus the Padres, the Rockies had just four hits in a 4-2 defeat. Starter Kyle Freeland went 5.0 innings with six hits, two walks and three earned.

For the starter job in the Saturday game, the Rockies will go with German Marquez. Across his 105.1 innings this year Marquez has 83 hits, 44 runs (42 earned), eight homers allowed, 41 walks, 105 strikeouts and a 3.59 ERA.

Over on the Padres’ side, they played the Nationals this week. San Diego got wins on Tuesday and Thursday but lost the other pair. In the Friday game, the Padres scored twice in the sixth during the win. Reiss Knehr put up 3.2 innings with two earned on four walks and three hits.

For the starter job on Saturday, the Padres will send out Joe Musgrove. Across his 94.0 frames this year Musgrove has 63 hits, 34 runs (31 earned), 12 homers allowed, 23 walks, 110 Ks and a 2.97 ERA.

The Rockies are 19-44 in their last 63 with the total set at 7.0-8.5 and 16-41 in their last 57 road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5. Colorado is 12-39 in their last 51 road games versus a right-handed starter and 1-6 in their last seven Saturday games.

Meanwhile, the Padres are 19-7 in their last 26 at home versus a right-handed starter and 1-4 in their last five Saturday games. The over is 8-3 in San Diego’s last 11 Saturday games and 5-2 in their last seven in game two of a series.

PICK: I’m going to stick with Colorado. Musgrove has had a couple of rough outings in his last two starts, giving up 10 earned on 11 hits with three homers and four walks in 9.0 innings. As for Marquez, he’s come back nicely after his June 12 eight-earned meltdown with just three earned over his last four starts. That’s a span of 29.0 innings and just nine hits. I like Marquez to keep it going and put the Rockies in a good spot.
