The Washington Nationals and the Philadelphia Phillies meet Sunday in MLB action from Citizens Bank Park. This will be the final installment in a weekend set between these teams. In the series opener Friday, the Nationals eked out a one-run win. On Saturday, the Phillies posted a three-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Washington got 7.2 innings out of Max Scherzer on Friday, helping the team manage a 2-1 win. In the Saturday game two, the Nationals posted four hits on the way to a 5-2 loss. Starter Joe Ross went 6.0 innings with three hits and no earned.

For the Sunday game, the Nationals will open up with Austin Voth in a bullpen day. So far this year Voth has a 2-0 record, a 2.93 ERA and 27 strikeouts.

Over on the Philly side, they managed six hits and got 7.1 innings with two earned from Zack Wheeler in the Friday loss. On Saturday, the Phillies scored four in the fourth inning and cruised to the victory. Spencer Howard and Ranger Suarez combined for 5.1 innings with one hit and no earned runs.

For the Sunday game three finale, the Phillies are sending Vince Velasquez to the hill. Over his 39.2 innings this year, Velasquez has 30 hits, 18 earned runs, nine homers allowed, 25 walks, 48 Ks and a 4.08 ERA.

The Nationals are 5-2 in their last seven in game three of a series and 12-26 in their last 38 road games versus a right-handed starter. The under is 7-1 in Washington’s last eight Sunday games and 17-5 in their last 22 in game three of a series.

Meanwhile, the Phillies are 8-21 in their last 29 Sunday games and 1-5 in their last six in game three of a series. The over is 5-1 in Philly’s last six Sunday games and the under is 10-4 in the last 14 versus a team with a losing record.

PICK: I’m going to stick with the Phillies. That is, provided Velasquez can post a bounce-back start here. He’s coming off his worst outing of the year, giving up six earned on five hits in 3.0 innings versus the Reds. Prior to that however, Velasquez hadn’t given up more than one earned run in five straight starts. I like Velasquez to get back to his old self in this one and put Philly in position to get a win.
