The Milwaukee Brewers and the Cincinnati Reds meet Saturday in MLB action from Great American Ball Park. This will be the third installment in a four-game series. The Brewers took a four-run win in the opener. On Friday in game two, Milwaukee kept it going with another victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.
Milwaukee posted two runs in both the second and sixth innings Thursday on the way to a 5-1 win. On Friday, the Brewers were down 2-0 early but came back for the 5-3 win. Starter Eric Lauer managed 2.2 innings, two earned, five hits and three walks.
Starter for the Brewers on Saturday will be Corbin Burnes. In 30 starts so far Burnes is 10-8 with a 3.12 ERA. Over 184.2 innings total he’s managed 64 earned on 136 hits and 48 walks with 223 Ks.
Over on the Reds’ side, they had just four hits in the Thursday opener and couldn’t find much success. On Friday Cincinnati gave up 11 hits (to their own seven) in the loss. Luis Cessa put up 4.2 innings as starter with three earned, six hits and four walks.
Graham Ashcraft will take the starting role for the Reds on Saturday. In his 16 starts so far Ashcraft is 5-3 with a 3.97 ERA. Over 93.0 innings total he has 41 earned on 101 hits and 23 walks with 64 Ks.
The Brewers are 4-0 in their last four Saturday games and 5-2 in their last seven in game three of a series. Milwaukee is 7-16 in their last 23 road games.
Meanwhile, the Reds are 7-19 in their last 26 Saturday games and 2-6 in their last eight in game three of a series. The under is 4-0 in Cincinnati’s last four Saturday games.
PICK: I’m going to take a stab on the Reds here. Both starters need a good showing, though. Ashcraft has given up six earned over his last 13.0 innings on 15 hits and four walks. As for Burnes, he’s got eight earned over his last two starts in 12.2 innings—both were losses. Each team should have some early opportunities in this one, and it could turn into a high-scoring affair pretty quickly.
