The San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies meet Thursday in MLB action from Coors Field. We will look at this from a betting perspective and determine the best bets for this game. Here’s a San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies prediction.

Starting Pitching Matchup

The San Diego Padres will send out Randy Vasquez to the mound and he is 0-1 with a 1.80 ERA and 3 strikeouts this season. This will be Vasquez’s first career start against the Rockies. Colorado will send Dakota Hudson to the mound here and Hudson is 0-4 with a 5.06 ERA this season. In his career, Hudson is 1-1 with a 2.45 ERA and 7 strikeouts against the Padres.

San Diego Padres Recap

The San Diego Padres will be looking to win the series after their 5-2 win over the Rockies from Wednesday’s matchup. The Series win would be a nice bounce back after losing their series to Toronto over the weekend and would get San Diego back on track after a series win over Milwaukee this time last week.

Padres Heating Up At The Dish

Fernando Tatis Jr. leads the Padres with 6 home runs and 15 RBIs while Ha-Seong Kim has 3 home runs, 15 RBIs as well as a pair of triples and 4 doubles along with a team-high 7 stolen bases. Luis Campusano has a team-high 7 doubles and Jurickson Profar has 6 doubles while Jackson Merrill has a team-high 28 hits and a .318 batting average. Manny Machado also has the dubious distinction of leading the Padres with 24 strikeouts this season.

San Diego Padres Team Facts

  • The Padres have won seven of their last eight games against the Rockies.
  • The Padres have covered the run line seven of their last eight road games against National League opponents that held a losing record.
  • The Padres have led after 3 innings in each of their last six games against opponents that held a losing record.
  • The Padres have led after 7 innings in each of their last six day games against the Rockies.
  • The ‘Inning 1 OVER 0.5 runs’ market has hit in each of the Padres’ last four day games at Coors Field.

Colorado Rockies Recap

The Colorado Rockies could use the win here to bounce back and salvage a series split, which would be a nice change for the Rockies considering they lost their last series against Seattle and were swept by Philadelphia in the series before that.

Ryan McMahon Leading Anemic Rockies Offense

Ryan McMahon leads the Rockies with 29 hits along with 5 doubles and a team-high 14 RBIs and a .312 batting average while Ezequiel Tovar has 29 hits of his own with 3 home runs and 12 RBIs. Michael Toglia has a team-high 4 home runs while Nolan Jones has the dubious distinction of leading the Rockies with 36 strikeouts this season. Brenton Doyle leads the Rockies with 7 doubles while Tovar has 6 doubles as well on the year.

Colorado Rockies Team Facts

  • The Rockies have lost eight of their last nine day games against National League opponents.
  • The Rockies have covered the run line 10 of their last 12 home games against National League opponents that held a winning record.
  • The Rockies have trailed after 3 innings in each of their last five games against National League opponents that held a winning record.
  • The Rockies have lost the first inning in each of their last five games against NL West opponents that held a winning record.
  • The Rockies have led after 7 innings in each of their last seven Thursday day games against NL West opponents that held a winning record.

Padres vs. Rockies Prediction

I’m on the Padres here. I don’t love Randy Vasquez as much as the next guy, but there’s simply no backing the Rockies in their current form if I’m being 100% honest. The Rockies’ offense is just struggling to put it nicely, and even playing at Coors, while it’s where Colorado’s numbers are better, hasn’t helped this team enough for me to think they can get over the hump here. Two runs or less has been the norm for the Rockies’ offense as of late and I think that’s the threshold they’re living at here as the Rockies lose another series. Give me San Diego here.
