The Angels played the Rays over the weekend, losing Friday and Saturday before a Sunday win 6-4. In the Monday game versus the Yankees, LA posted two runs in the first inning on the way to a 5-3 victory. Dylan Bundy lasted 1.2 innings with four this and two earned.
For the starter job in the Tuesday game, the Angels will send out Andrew Heaney. Over his 68.2 innings this year Heaney has 67 hits, 37 runs (36 earned), 11 homers allowed, 20 walks, 85 Ks and a 4.72 ERA.
Over on the Yankees’ side, they posted a limp effort against the AL East rival Red Sox this past weekend, getting swept in a three-game set. In the Monday game, New York’s offensive woes continued with just six team hits. Michael King put up 4.1 innings with two earned on six hits and two walks.
For the starter job in the Tuesday matchup, the Yankees are sending out Jameson Taillon. Over his 64.1 innings this year Taillon has 64 hits, 37 earned runs, 11 homers allowed, 20 walks, 69 Ks and a 5.18 ERA.
The Angels are 35-77 in their last 112 road games versus a team with a winning record and 15-36 in their last 51 road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5. The over is 6-0 in LA’s last six in game two of a series and 5-1 in the last six Tuesday games.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are 45-15 in their last 60 home games versus a team with a losing record and 14-5 in their last 19 in game two of a series. New York is 98-47 in their last 145 home games and 43-21 in their last 64 Tuesday games.
PICK: I suppose I’m still sticking with the Yankees, but I don’t have much confidence in the team these days. Taillon has been solid over his last two outings, posting three earned on nine hits in 11.0 innings during that stretch. As for Heaney, he gave up five earned on 10 hits in 6.0 innings versus the Giants his last time up but had a pretty decent three-game run prior to that. The Yankees offense is going to have to show up here, and who knows how well that will go these days.
