The Cincinnati Reds and the Miami Marlins meet Sunday in MLB action from Marlins Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Reds took a three-run win on Friday, then in game two Cincinnati kept it going with a one-run victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds came back form a 4-2 deficit on Friday to eventually take the opener win 7-4. On Saturday in game two, Cincinnati scored three runs in both the fifth and eighth innings in a 6-5 win. Levi Stoudt did most of the pitching on 3.0 innings, two hits, one earned, three walks and three Ks.

For the starter job in the Sunday matchup, the Reds will send out Luke Weaver. Over his four starts this year Weaver is 1-2 with a 7.36 ERA and 21 Ks in 22.0 innings. Weaver has a career record of 25-38 with a 4.91 ERA in 119 games (85 starts).

Miami Marlins

Over on the Marlins’ side, they were out-hit 11-7 in the Friday opener and gave up five runs across the final three innings. On Saturday Miami had a 4-3 lead going into the eighth but couldn’t come back from there. Sandy Alcantara lasted 7.2 innings with six earned, seven hits and two walks as starter.

It’ll be Braxton Garrett in the starting role Sunday for the Marlins. Over his seven games (six starts), Garrett is 1-2 with a 5.97 ERA and 28 strikeouts over 31.2 innings. Garrett is 6-12 with a 4.46 career ERA over 34 games (32 starts).

The Reds are 9-19 in their last 28 versus the NL East and 2-5 in their last seven in game three of a series. Cincinnati is 0-4 in their last four Sunday games.
Meanwhile, the Marlins are 3-7 in their last 10 overall and the over is 5-1 in their last six in game three of a series. The under is 10-4-1 in Miami’s last 15 at home.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably just stay with the Reds here. Also probably staying away from this one, though. Both starters could use a good outing: Garrett has 15 earned over his last 9.2 innings, and Weaver has 14 earned in his last 16.0 frames. In the Saturday game two, the Reds really only had the two big innings but it was enough to power out the victory. A sweep this weekend would be impressive, but it’s probably a coin-flip matchup at best.
