Over on the Yankees’ side, their last set was against the Baltimore Orioles. New York won just one of those four games, falling 2-0, 4-2 and 7-2 otherwise. After their one-run win over Detroit in the opener, on Saturday the Yankees got two hits, three RBI and a homer from Anthony Rizzo in the victory. Clarke Schmidt managed 5.0 innings in the start with three earned on four hits and no walks, striking out seven.
It’ll be Nestor Cortes in the starting pitcher role for the Yankees on Sunday. This year Cortes is 1-3 with a 3.86 ERA in seven starts. He’s got 37 Ks in 42.0 innings. Cortes is 25-14 with a 3.82 ERA in 111 career games (63 starts).

NY Yankees vs Detroit Tigers Prediction
I’ll lean toward the Yankees. Cortes needs a good start, though. Over his last two outings combined, Cortes has seven earned runs on 13 hits and two walks in 13.0 innings. He’s lost both games. As for Skubal, he’s been great lately with 13.0 innings, one earned, seven hits and one walk in his last two starts. Skubal is 2-0 in that pair.
On Saturday New York had the one big inning on offense but were pretty quiet offensively after the third. Still, eight different players got on base at least once in a pretty well-rounded effort. The bullpen was strong as well with 4.0 innings, three hits, one walk and seven strikeouts. New York should have a good shot at completing the sweep on Sunday.
