The New York Mets and the Cincinnati Reds meet Thursday in MLB action from Great American Ball Park. This will be the finale in a three-game series. The Reds eked out a win in the Tuesday opener, then on Wednesday New York evened it up with a close win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

New York Mets

The Mets gave up seven runs across the first five innings in the Tuesday opener of this set and fell 7-6 despite a late comeback. On Wednesday New York had 10 hits in a 2-1 win. Starter Justin Verlander lasted 7.0 innings with one earned on two hits and two walks.

For the starter job in the Thursday game the Mets will go with Kodai Senga. This year over six starts Senga is 4-1 with a 3.38 ERA and 36 Ks in 32.0 innings.

Cincinnati Reds

Over on the Reds’ side, they out-hit the Mets 10-7 in the Tuesday victory and scored three in the fifth inning alone. In game two the Reds could only muster two team hits in the loss. Starting pitcher Hunter Greene lasted 5.1 innings with two earned on six hits and four walks.

As the starting pitcher in the finale it’ll be Cincinnati’s Derek Law. Over 17 games (zero starts) this year Law is 2-4 with a 3.00 ERA. In his career Law is 14-12 with a 4.11 ERA over 210 games (four starts).

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably stay with the Mets here. It’ll be interesting to see what Law can do in the start, though. Senga has been pitching well over his last two starts. In 11.0 combined innings during that pair, he’s got two earned on seven hits and eight walks. Senga is 1-1 in that time, and he’ll need some help from the Mets offense to get another victory in this one. On Wednesday New York got a solid offensive effort overall with three different players notching multiple hits. They’ll probably have to score a couple more to be safe in the finale, but I think New York is up for it.

Andrew's Free Pick: New York Mets -155
