The Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals meet in an NL Central division matchup in MLB action from Busch Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Chicago Cubs will look to finish the season strong after picking up a 6-5 win over the Cardinals in Saturday’s matchup. Ian Happ leads the Cubs with 100 hits, a .323 OBP and a .227 batting average while Patrick Wisdom has a team-high 28 home runs and Happ leads current Cubs with 66 RBIs this season. Alec Mills is tabbed to get the start on Sunday and is 8-7 with a 5.09 ERA and 86 strikeouts this season.

The St. Louis Cardinals will try to rebound and head into the Wild Card game on a high note after their loss on Saturday. Paul Goldschmidt leads the Cards with a .294 batting average, a .366 OBP and 177 hits while Nolan Arenado has team-highs of 34 home runs and 105 RBIs with both Arenado logging 34 doubles, two behind Goldschmidt’s team-high 36 two-baggers this season. Dylan Carlson has a team-high 4 triples and Tommy Edman has 167 hits with a team-high 41 doubles this season. Jake Woodford will start here and is 3-3 with a 3.88 ERA and 46 strikeouts this season.

Chicago is 14-29 in their last 43 road games and 17-41 in their last 58 games as a road underdog while the over is 5-0 in their last 5 game three matchups. St. Louis is 8-1 in their last 9 home games and 6-1 in their last 7 games as a home favorite while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games as a favorite.

This is a tough spot for the Cubs as the Cardinals are just playing better baseball right now and are trying to build up momentum with a date with a 105+ win team in a wildcard game. Alec Mills also hasn’t been anything special this season and it’s hard to see the Cubs doing much of anything right with him going on the final day of the season. I know these division games can get hairy occasionally, but I think we have a winner with the Cards here.
