The Los Angeles Clippers welcome the Sacramento Kings to town on Saturday afternoon.
Head to head, the Kings are 1-4 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Los Angeles while the home team is 12-5-1 ATS in the last 18 meetings. The Clippers are 18-6 ATS in their last 24 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400, 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a S.U. loss and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 home games vs. a team with a losing road record. The Kings on the other hand are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 road games, but just 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
There's a good chance the Los Angeles Clippers will finish in the top two of the Western Conference at the end of the regular season, but they are going to have periods throughout the year where they aren't playing great basketball and this is one of them. The Clippers come into tonight's game having split their last four games, but that could of easily been 1-3 after they struggled to put away a visiting Brooklyn Nets squad that looks like the worst team in the league at the moment. If Los Angeles wants to be considered a serious title contender this season, they are going to have to shore up their defensive woes as they are allowing opponents to score 105.1 points per game, which is the third worst mark in the NBA.
The Sacramento Kings come into tonight's showdown having won consecutive games for the first time this season having just defeated the Phoenix Suns in a home-and-home series. Having won just two of their nine games of the season, the Kings took advantage of a Suns team that was missing their leading scorer in Eric Bledsoe and had their two biggest scoring games of the season, pouring in 107 and 113 points in back-to-back victories.
Having already defeated Sacramento at their place by nine points this season, I have no reason to think they can't do it again this afternoon. LA is coming off a loss to Oklahoma City on Thursday and they also dropped their last home game to Memphis, so I expect them to come out with a sense of urgency against a Kings team that dropped their previous two road games by an average of 12 points. You also can't look past the fact that the Clippers have won their last three at home against Sacramento by an average of 20 points. There always seems to be the chance of a back-door cover when the Kings are double-digit dogs, but I think Los Angeles bounces back here...
