The San Antonio Spurs will play their sixth straight road game when they take on the Boston Celtics Wednesday night. The Spurs have lost two of their last three games and the Celtics have won four of their last five.
The Spurs continue to play without many key players and it’s obviously starting to catch up to them. They recently lost to the Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons. While the offense is still scoring in the 100s, it’s the defense that is allowing teams to shoot 46 percent in their last five games that has proved the injuries costly. San Antonio only allows teams to shoot 44.6 percent on the season. The Spurs are 24-28 against the spread this season and 14-12 ATS on the road.
Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports
The Celtics have been playing their best basketball of the season as of late. In their last five games they’re averaging 100.4 points and allowing just 94.8 points on defense. This is a team that’s scoring just 95.1 points and allowing 98.5 on the season. Center Jared Sullinger has had a double-double is six straight games. The Celtics are 26-26-1 ATS on the season and 11-15-1 ATS at home.
The Spurs have beaten the Celtics in four straight meetings, including the meeting earlier this year back in November. However, that’s when the Spurs were healthy and when the Celtics weren’t playing with nearly the same confidence they’re playing with right now.
Boston has covered four of its last five games, while the Spurs are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games. Also, the underdog is 11-2-1 in the last 14 meetings between these two teams.
Who would have thought?
I’ll go ahead and take the points and the home team. The Spurs are just too banged up right now.
