The Phoenix Suns play host to the Utah Jazz at the Footprint Center on Saturday night.
The Utah Jazz have been in poor form lately as they’ve lost six of their past eight games overall and they will be hoping to avoid a fourth straight defeat after last night’s 129-118 road loss to the Warriors. Lauri Markkanen led the team with 24 points on nine of 17 shooting, Kelly Olynyk and Jordan Clarkson each scored 21 points while Collin Sexton chipped in with 13 points and seven assists. As a team, the Jazz shot 47 percent from the field and 11 of 45 from the 3-point line, but they weren’t switched on defensively to start the game and were always fighting an uphill battle after getting outscored by 37-23 in the first quarter. Nickeil Alexander-Walker had a night to forget as he scored just eight points on three of 11 shooting while Talen Horton-Tucker finished scoreless on zero of five shooting.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns have been in good form as they’ve won four of their past five games and they will be looking to build on their current three-game win streak after sneaking past the Pistons in a 108-102 home win last night. DeAndre Ayton led the team with 28 points and 12 rebounds on 11 of 13 shooting, Devin Booker added 21 points, seven rebounds and five assists, Cameron Payne tallied 16 points with 10 assists while Mikal Bridges chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Suns shot 48 percent from the field and seven of 29 from the 3-point line as they struggled to gain any separation from the pesky Pistons until the third quarter where they poured in 31 points to start to pull away. Torrey Craig had a rough night as he finished with just two points on one of seven shooting.
Looking at the betting trends, the Jazz are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a winning record and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games overall. The Suns are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games, 5-0 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days rest and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record.
Head to head, the over is 5-2 in the last seven meetings overall and the Jazz are 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.
The Jazz will again be missing Mike Conley and Leandro Bolmaro, while the Suns are still without Chris Paul and Landry Shamet. The Jazz have really gone off the boil lately and they allowed a slow start to really cost them in last night’s loss to the Warriors. The Suns are coming into this one as the team in better form, but they were far from convincing in their narrow win over the lowly Pistons last night. I’d be tempted to take the Jazz if they were in better form, but they’ve really cooled off lately and are only 2-5 ATS in their last seven games, so I’ll stick with the more reliable Suns who are 5-0 ATS in their last five games playing on zero days’ rest.
