The Sacramento Kings have a lot to be optimistic about, especially after they reeled off 48 wins last season to push the Golden State Warriors in a seven-game series in the first round of the playoffs. The Kings didn’t make any noise in the offseason, but they did extend Domantas Sabonis and Harrison Barnes while acquiring Sasha Vezenkov from the EuroLeague. The Kings ranked first in offense and averaged 120.7 points per game, but they will be eager to improve on their defense which ranked 24th in the league.

Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz are continuing their rebuild after they lost nine of their last 11 games of the regular season to finish with a 37-45 overall record. The Jazz have yet to replace the talent they traded away a year ago, but they did sign John Collins who was a key scorer for the Atlanta Hawks. A lot of the team’s success is on the shoulders of Lauri Markkanen, but to be realistic, it would be a major surprise if they are able to eclipse the 40-win mark with this squad.

The Kings were one of the surprise teams of the league as they snapped a 16-year playoff drought last season and there is no reason they can’t go even further this season with all five starters returning healthy. The Kings have plenty of room for improvement on the defensive end, but they still have De’Aaron Fox, Harrison Barnes and Domantas Sabonis ready to go, which I think will be more than enough to get past this Jazz team who will likely miss the playoffs again.
