The Pittsburgh Penguins and the New York Islanders meet in NHL action from the Nassau Coliseum on Thursday night.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to bounce back from a 4-3 Sidneyloss to the Isles in their last matchup. Sidney Crosby leads the Penguins with 9 points including 4 goals and 5 assists while Bryan Rust and Jake Guentzel each have 8 points with Rust logging a team-high 6 assists while Guentzel has 4 goals and 4 helpers. Evgeni Malkin, Kasperi Kapanen and Teddy Blueger each have 6 points consisting of 2 goals and 4 assists and Jared McCann, Jason Zucker and Pierre-Oliver Joseph each have 5 points with Zucker logging 3 goals, McCann putting up 3 assists and Joseph logging 4 assists.Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith split the work in goal for Pittsburgh, with Jarry going 2-5 with a 3.95 GAA while DeSmith’s picked up 3 wins in 5 starts with a 2.85 GAA.
The New York Islanders will look to build on a 2-0 win over the rival New York Rangers last time out. Mathew Barzal leads the Isles in scoring with 12 points coming on 4 goals with 8 assists Jordan Eberle has 7 points with 5 goals and a pair of assists while Anders Lee and Noah Dobson each have 6 points with Lee logging 4 goals and Dobson posting 4 assists. Nick Leddy also has 5 points with a goal and 4 helpers for the Isles this season. Semyon Varlamov has started the bulk of the action for the Islanders in goal, going 5-3 with 3 shutouts and a 1.88 GAA this season.
Pittsburgh is 1-4 in their last 5 games overall and 3-13 in their last 16 road games while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games as a favorite. New York is 2-6 in their last 8 games following a win and 2-5 in their last 7 games overall while the under is 20-6-2 in their last 28 games as a home underdog. Pittsburgh is 1-7 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
I understand why people may still be on board with the Penguins as you see names like Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin and it’s hard not to be. However, the Pens have been god awful on the road this season and I don’t see that changing here against an Islanders team that’s righted the ship after a rough start. I’ll lay it and play it with the Islanders on the money line in this one.
