French Open: Novak Djokovic vs. Matteo Berrettini 6/9/21 Tennis Prediction

Novak Djokovic vs. Matteo Berrettini
June 9, 2021 9:00 am EDT

Novak Djokovic (1) meets Matteo Berrettini (9) in the quarter finals of the 2021 French Open on Wednesday, June 9th 2021.

Will Matteo Berrettini use the somewhat successful match of Lorenzo Musetti early on against Novak to motivate himself to believe that the upset is possible here, or will Novak have done his homework to ensure he does not start off as badly as he did there in the fourth round?

Matteo Berrettini will have been resting and training a lot in these last 4 days, ensuring he is at his best for this quarter final as he did not have to play in the fourth round against Roger Federer who withdrew from the tournament the day before their match ensuring he could recover and rest his body to be at his best for Wimbledon. Matteo will be happy and sad about that as its good he will be fresh and have a lot of energy, but he would have loved to be beating Roger Federer to increase the momentum behind him and the confidence going into this quarter final.

Novak Djokovic had to fight back from 2 sets down against Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round, but he did it in style, absolutely dominating the remainder of the match and showing us all why he is so good. Novak changed his game style up in the 3rd set by making the rallies longer and wearing the youngster down who had already had to play a 5 set match in his third round match. Novak showed us that he may be down sometimes, but never out, and he will give it his all until the very last point to ensure he does not give anything away easily.

This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Novak Djokovic having won their only prior encounter in 2 sets. Although Novak won that easily, Berrettini will be confident in his game nowadays, especially on clay. Matteo is such a powerful opponent that he will be able to hang into rallies longer than Musetti was, and he will definitely put up a strong fight. However, I still see the experience of Novak Djokovic coming out on top here as he always bounces back after a tough match to show us his resilience.
