Daniil Medvedev vs Corentin Moutet
June 22, 2021 12:00 am EDT
Top seeded Daniil Medvedev of Russia will face unseeded Frenchman Corentin Moutet in the Round of 16 here at the 2021 Mallorca Open. The match is scheduled to be played on Tuesday June 22nd, 2021.
World number two Daniil Medvedev is here at the 2021 Mallorca Open to try to find some form ahead of the Wimbledon Championships. His preparations for the event did not get off to a great start when he lost his opening match in Halle, so he will be hoping to get back on track here. In his way here in Mallorca is the unseeded Frenchman Corentin Moutet, who seems to be in good form at the moment. Can he go one step further and upset the number one seed, advancing to the Quarter-Finals?
Daniil Medvedev is seeded #1 here at the 2021 Mallorca Open, and is ranked #2 in the ATP world rankings. The tall Russian has certainly been having a mixed season so far in 2021, with outstanding performances to start the year before faltering during the clay court season. However, he surprisingly made a run to the Quarter-Finals at Roland Garros, something that noone would have expected, and he will be hoping to do something similar during the grass-court season. Despite his lack of success on grass throughout his career, he should still be considered the favorite here against Corentin Moutet, but it won’t be easy here against his talented opponent.
Corentin Moutet is a talented young Frenchman, who has shown flashes of what he is capable of so far on the ATP Tour. He has largely been inconsistent so far in his career, but started well here, surprisingly defeating South African Lloyd Harris in the First Round at the 2021 Mallorca Open. He may struggle to hold serve here against Daniil Medvedev, but his heavy groundstrokes are sure to cause tons of issues. Despite starting this match as the underdog, he is seemingly in good form and will be confident of causing the upset here.

This will be the first meeting between the two players, and it is shaping up to be an interesting one. Daniil Medvedev is obviously the better player but has not looked great on the grass, while Moutet looks at home. Despite this. I expect the Russian to still get the win here, but it surely will be a grind. Three sets is a possibility, but he will win and advance to the Quarters here at the 2021 Mallorca Open.
