Matteo Berrettini vs Ilya Ivashka
July 5, 2021 12:00 pm EDT
Matteo Berrettini (7) meets Ilya Ivashka in the fourth round of the Wimbledon on Monday, July 5th, 2021.
Will Matteo Berrettini continue to show us that he is a real contender for the title here as he has been strong on grass, or will Ilya Ivashka shock us all and get a huge win in his career on one of the biggest stages in the tennis season?
Ilya Ivashka has not had the toughest draw coming up to this fourth round match, not meeting any top tier opponents who were almost guaranteed to beat him. Ivashka was able to beat Jordan Thompson in the third round in 3 sets 6-4/6-4/6-4 to book his spot in the fourth round, but now he meets a much tougher opponent than anyone he has faces all tournament in Matteo Berrettini. Ivashka will want to come out here ready to show us that he can cause upsets, but if he is to do so, he needs to be at his absolute best and Matteo needs to be sub par.
Matteo Berrettini did not have a tough match against Aljaz Bedene in the third round, beating him in 3 sets 6-4/6-4/6-4. Matteo will be very happy for his performances here at Wimbledon and he knows that the more dominant wins he gets under his belt here, the more confident he will be going into the more important matches later on. Matteo is a real contender here if he continues to win easily, but Ilya Ivashka is sometimes underrated and he can definitely give him a hard time if he is at his best.

This is going to be the 2nd meeting between both players, with Matteo Berrettini having won their only prior encounter. Ivashka will definitely come out here knowing he has nothing to lose because he should have not even been this far if the draw had gone to plan, so he will swing freely in my opinion. However, Matteo is still the much better player in this match and he will not want to lose too much momentum by allowing Ivashka to push him to his limits. Berrettini will win this match relatively easily to go through to the quarter finals.
