A keenly contested match is expected here in the First Round of the 2021 Nordea Open, as Emil Ruusuvuori and Mikael Ymer do battle for a spot in the Round of 16. Both players are considered very promising young talents and are very close together in the rankings. Like his opponent Emil Ruusuvuori he had a strong start to the year, reaching a career high #67 in the world rankings, but has tailed off somewhat. Despite losing in the Second Round at Wimbledon, he was still very impressive, defeating Jo-Wilfred Tsonga in the First Round before losing in four sets to eventual Quarter-Finalist Felix Auger-Aliassime in the Second Round, in a match that was dead even until the fourth set. He is an elite mover on these courts and has a very explosive baseline game. His main issue is that he commits far too many unforced errors at times, something that could be his downfall against the more consistent Finn.

This is a tough match to call, and it is one that truly can go either way. Both men are very capable of winning here, but I am going to give the slight edge to Emil Ruusuvuori. They both have very similar games, but Ruusuvuori is much more consistent, and appears to be stronger mentally. Ymer certainly has the game to win, but the smart money is on the Finn here. I do expect three sets in the match and tensions will be high, but Emil Ruusuvuori will win this one, advancing to the Round of 16 here in Bastad.
